I am a student at Ōtaki College in Ōtaki, NZ. My blog is a place where I will be able to share some of my learning. Please note....some work won't be edited - they are just my first drafts, so there may be some errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas on my posts.

100 word Challenge not counting title
What's behind the door
Tap tap tap… Tap tap tap … I keep hearing tap tap tap behind the door .
What is it? I thought. The need to see was killing me.
I tried to reach out to the door knob but my body was pushing me back.

I tried to reach out to the door knob but my body was pushing me back.
I approached it carefully. I felt scared and excited.
My body was shaking, my hands were
trembling and my palms were sweating. I reach out for the door handle and…
I twist the handle. Creek. It’s black. All black . There's nothing. I walk in closer but I trip
and the door closes. Oh no “HELP AHHHH”

At school we were trying out a challenge. Were the starter sentence is what's behind the door and we have to write a 100 word story exactly out of just that one starting sentence.

How to stay on task.
Hello😄
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today we were learning how to be at the right place at the right time and we made comic strips about how to stay on task and not being distracted by tabs open like games or things that would distract you. So this comic would be tips on how to close tabs and stay focused.

Construction site tour
On Tuesday morning all of Waitohu School around 280 students including all teachers
went down to the bridge construction site.
There were 4 main points of the tour explaining the steps working towards the main
goal of completing the bridge construction.

There were 4 main points of the tour explaining the steps working towards the main
goal of completing the bridge construction.
The first meeting point was just next to the underpass
It was the big bridge next to the train tracks. They talked about the R.E.
bricks they used to make the walls of the bridge and they also talked about another thing
that was very surprising.
It turns out they moved somewhere around 700 eels!
Because the bridge making process might have been damaging the environment.

The second point that we walked to was the site with lots and lots of machinery.
At the site Mike showed us that if you are in a digger and if there is a person behind the
digger (or any other truck or vehicle)
the person driving the vehicle can not see you.
So it is very dangerous to approach any type of vehicle on the site if it is moving.

the final point (that I can remember)
was the point at the side of the road where they were making
a pedestrian crossing for people going to college next year.
The pedestrian crossing will be good so that we can cross safely
without getting hit by a car.

After Room 3 had gone to all the meeting points our class walked back to
Waitohu School and had lunch mixed with morning tea.
Overall it was really fun and I learned a lot about the things happening around Otaki.
But after the big walk I was extremely thirsty and tired,
but I think it was worth all the knowledge I gained.

This is the maths I have been working on for the last couple weeks. the strategy is called doubling and halving
46 x 7000=322,000 first you have to double the smallest number which would be 46
and double 46 is 92 so then the equation is now 92 x ?? then halve the biggest number which is 7000
and 1/2 of 7000 is 3500 so now the equation is 92 x 3500 = 322,000.

My Poem
Today I made a poem with a piece of paper that starts off the sentence and then you have to write the rest. It is for a poetry slam.
I am a panther stalking my prey as subtle as the wind
I wonder if i'm being watched spied on in the night
I hear explosions as I run as fast as I can
I want to dash away but I cannot because i'm trapped
I am scared and worried for my life
I pretend to be a robot hovering in space
I feel hot like i'm on a volcano
I worry that i'm going to slip and fall down 100 ft
I cry as my house explodes
I am a dragon breathing molten lava fire out of my mouth
I understand complicated problems
I say mean things in the heat of the situation
I dream of money raining from the sky
I try to hold on as the rocket accelerates into space
I hope to be immortal and to drift across the sky
I am a snake slithering across the dry arid landscape

My plane measuring maths
For Maths today we did some research and measuring on how far the planes flew and what made them fly worse or better.
1.Make an assertion (a thoughtful statement) on a variable that will affect flight distance.
2.Choose a basic design for your paper plane; then modify (change features of) this design to provide a variety of different models, based on your assertion.
3.Collect data by trialling each plane and recording the distance it travels alongside the variable you are testing.
4.Plot data on a graph to establish whether there is a relationship between the variables you are investigating. This can easily be done on Google Sheets. Whaea Rob will show you how to do this.
5.Check your assertion. Was your original idea correct?

The way you fold it is my assertion you have to fold it neatly and symmetrically especially on the folds like the wings and folding the paper at the start so the plane has equal weight on each side so it can fly properly.
For plane 2 I folded it side to side But on plane 1 I folded it from top to bottom and for plane 2 I did the wing fold twice instead of once for like number 1.
Conclusion: My conclusion is that it is better to fold it side to side than from front to bottom It will fly further, straighter, faster and overall better. I have got this information from the research I have done above and the research clearly shows that folding it like plane 2 is best
